A team of eight from Fort Collins, CO took a journey to a remote village in Honduras in September, 2011. Nestled among the lush, rolling green mountains sat Las Playas. To get there, the team climbed in the back of pickup trucks as they rolled over muddy, bumpy roads and crossed rivers.
66 Grew to 78
Before arriving, we raised money for 66 filters to be purchased and had them shipped the week before our arrival. After the order was made, we found out that 12 new families moved into the area, bringing the need to 78 filters. Saddened that we did not have enough money to buy 12 more filters, we figured that some would just need to share.
Math 101
The day the filters were to be picked up at the warehouse for delivery to Las Playas, a call came in saying they thought we sent a check to buy 66 filters. But, somehow the check was enough to buy 75 filters, only 3 short of the total needed. I knew that the filters were just about to be loaded, so I asked them to load up 78! I said “You have money for 75 and we will trust God he will get us the money for the last 3.” By the end of that day, two team members shared the story and 2 people paid for the last 3 filters. 78 families would each be getting their own water filter! God is good!
Many Smiles
As we worked side by side with each family installing the filters, many smiles came to all of our faces. One older lady just kept hugging Kierna and was happy we were there, even though her husband just died days earlier. He worked in the coffee fields and was the main bread winner. We prayed a blessing over her and for God’s provision. God’s timing of bringing encouragement to one person always seems to be just in time.
Thankful
The village knew the filters were a gift from God because He cared for them all. All thanked God for the blessing of safe, clean water.
